Frequently Asked Questions

Why so Serious with the Fine Print Warning on the Entry page?

Students should be aware of the guidelines MCC has established regarding Acceptable Use of all its networked resources, which extend to use of the online Student Classifieds. It is essential that users abide by these shared principles and act responsibly. If this free service is abused it will be terminated. You'll see another reminder of your responsibilities when you register for a new account.

A Category or Forum is Not Available for the Ad I Want to Post.

Students may make suggestions or comments about the Classifieds service, and depending on this input MCC may add additional categories or features before the beginning of each semester. Don't hold your breath for a "Personals/ Singles" category, however. Are you crazy? We're a college system not a dating service.

Current Categories:

  • Books: textbooks, workbooks, study guides, buy/ sell/ trade.
  • For-Sale Items: exercise equipment; computers & peripherals; musical instruments; accessories.
  • Transportation: cars, trucks, bicycles, rides to/ from campus, car pooling.
  • Rental Housing: roommates, apartments, duplexes, etc. $400k or other houses for sale do not belong here.
  • Clubs/ Organizations: student groups sponsored through MCC, e.g., Phi Theta Kappa, Reentry, Student Government, Writers' Guild, etc.
See how there are no categories for businesses, to spare us all from ads like "Work at Home and Make $2000 a Week"? We don't include Businesses as a category because there won't be any commercial or professional postings - our educational ISP won't allow them. For that matter, NO home-based business advertising is permitted, either, like day care centers, Avon, aroma therapy, shock treatment, mud spas, whatever. Did we mention commercial ads will be deleted? Well, they will.

One great alternative for "Help Wanted" business postings in particular is ProjectHIRE, a free, multi-county service available to large and small employers. On the other hand, if you're out of work and looking, you can create a resume at ProjectHIRE to help in your job search!

How Many? What Kind? How Big?

Each student is asked to limit themselves to five postings. Multiple submissions with duplicate information will be deleted.
This Classifieds site is for non-commercial use only. Postings for commercial products, businesses, or services are subject to immediate removal - see previous section.
The main text area of each posting should be limited to 1000 characters (about 20 lines in the "Posting Text" window on the "Post" page).

How Long Will My Ad Stay Posted?

Ads stay alive for exactly 60 days. An Ad posted today would be automatically deleted on 11/5/2008, BUT we strongly encourage students to delete any messages as soon as they're no longer needed to get their contact information off the site. You will need to log in any time you want to edit or delete your posting(s).

Go To Top Of PageCan I be notified by e-mail when there are new posts?

Yes, the Subscription feature allows you to subscribe to the entire Board, individual Categories, Forums and/or Topics, depending on what the administrator of this site allows. You will receive an e-mail notifying you of a post that has been made to the Category/Forum/Topic that you have subscribed to. There are four levels of subscription:

- Board Wide Subscription
If you can subscribe to an entire Board, you'll get a notification for any posts made within all the forums inside that board.

- Category Wide Subscription
You can subscribe to an entire Category, which will notify you if there was any posts made within any topic, within any forum, within that Category.

- Forum Wide Subscription
If you don't want to subscribe to an entire Category, you can subscribe to a single forum. This will notify you of any posts made within any topic, within that forum.

- Topic Wide Subscription
More conveniently, you can subscribe to just an individual topic. You will be notified of any post made within that topic.
Each level of subscription is optional. The administrator can turn On/Off each level of subscription for each Category/Forum/Topic.
To Subscribe or Unsubscribe from any level of subscription, you can use the "My Subscriptions" link, located near the top of each page to manage your subscriptions. Or you can click on the subscribe/unsubscribe icons (Subscribe UnSubscribe) for that Category/Forum/Topic you want to subscribe/unsubscribe to/from.
